Wife is pleased :o) Camera and Mirror seem to work well. Installation took some work. Good customer service when I lost a part.
I don't usually do reviews but I will because of the unexpectedly good customer service... My wife wanted a backup camera in her 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan. I researched for 30 minutes, bought this, and installed as a surprise one evening. It works very well and she is pleased. The quality of the mirror and camera seem very good although I don't know what to compare them to. We don't drive new cars- so I guess you could say our expectations were very low. With that said, again, we are pleased. It functions very well. I have no complaints on the product itself. As far as installation, the camera and mirror/display mounted perfectly, quickly, and easily. That was the easy part. However, I will say that running the wires and making the electrical connections will stretch your skills. If you have experience working on car interiors, electrical systems, etc... you will be able to do this. I would not recommend attempting this installation as a novice. I am a mechanical engineer in the automotive parts business who has worked on cars for 20 years. I have some electrical experience and I have installed a few car radios by removing the dash, etc... This installation stretched my skills - it took me about 6 hours installing everything so that no wires were showing. You must attach both the camera end (back of the car) to power (the reverse lamp circuit) and ground. Then you must run the video feed to the front. Then you must connect the mirror part to power and ground and connect the video feed. Not difficult on a workbench, just consider how you will do this on your car, and then hide all the wires. Nothing in itself too difficult, but does require some work. One last thing... remember to tighten the ring of the camera after you are done. I didnt, and the ring that holds the camera on the mounting bracket unscrewed and fell out on the road somewhere. It still worked fine, but just loose. I contacted the seller through Amazon. They were responsive and helped me get a replacement at no charge... so THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I give this 5 stars due to everything working properly, good quality, and good customer service.

With a little modification, works great on a Jeep XJ with a rear swing away spare tire
Like most people with modified Jeeps with big tires and a swing away tire carriers, it is difficult for me to see anything behind my truck when backing up. This backup camera and rear view mirror monitor solved that problem. I have a Hanson Offroad JXJRTC-P Rear Bumper on the back of my XJ. This puts the 35" tire right in the middle of my windshield making it difficult to see things when backing up. I initially installed the camera with my license plate, on the passenger side of my lift gate, which still worked, but some of the field of view to the immediate left was blocked by the large spare tire. I decided to relocate the bracket in the center of the rear and mount it to the spare tire. I first lined up the camera with a large gap in the spare tire rim, then simply cut an inch off each side of the bracket and drilled two new holes in the bracket that lined up with other openings in the spare tire rim. I then used two bolts through the openings in the rim, and nuts to attach the bracket to the backside of the tire. This simple modification allowed me to mount it to the spare tire and center it in the middle of my Cherokee. If I ever have to use my spare tire, it only takes a 10mm socket and about 30 seconds for me to free it from the backside of the spare tire so it can be used. The combination of the backup camera and monitor work great, and it makes backing up with a big spare tire a ton easier!

Great product, especially for the cost
I install 12 volt accessories at a car shop. I've installed this camera (the cam6 model without mirror monitor) on 2 vehicles; a chrysler car and a Chevrolet pickup truck. Installation is simple: just tap reverse light power, ground it, plug the camera into the included video wiring harness and run the wire all they way to whatever monitor you're using in the car. There is also a reverse power signal output if your monitor requires that. Quality is great. It isn't HD, but 480p is more than sufficient for a backup camera. Night visibility is good, even in very low light the picture is clear. The camera so far has held up to many dusty dirt roads and rain storms with no malfunctions. The video wire is plenty long. Long enough to do a Silverado with a few feet of excess wire leftover. The bracket is sturdy and the camera is adjustable. You can bend the mount up or down, and if you loosen the bezel on front you can spin the camera till the picture is level. I'm very satisfied! You won't find a better camera at this price point. If I install another backup camera I'll be buying Auto-Vox!

BEST CAMERA FOR THE $$$!!!!
Best camera on the market for the money, period!!!! READ ENTIRE REVIEW First impression: When I pulled the camera out of the box I wasn't very impressed, the instructions was lacking especially if you are a first time installer (not going to take away a star for instructions, your taking the project on, do a little research on basic camera installation beforehand) and the camera itself was smaller than I imagined by the picture which made me wonder how the quality of the image was going to be. Installation: Very simple installation, has a power wire close to the camera and a power wire with the RCA cable (radio side). This gives an option to power it from the reverse wire or from the accessory power wire at the radio (only need to connect one of the two power wires). For most installations, including mine, you can simply ground it to the same bolt that is going through the bracket. Depending on your vehicle you may want to work your way from the camera to the front of the vehicle being as the RCA is smaller than the adapter end that plugs into the camera (some vehicles it won't matter, just plan before you install) It's setup to mount to a tag, but in my scenario I just had to drill new holes to mount it because I wasn't mounting close to my tag so I can't comment on using it with a tag. Once it was mounted, it was angled slightly downward (this is where I thought I would have an issue), the camera was made onto a small metal bar that was actually super stiff (this is what I thought was going to be flimsy), I slightly bent the bar upwards and BAM! PERFECT! I drove my van around on some rough roads and the camera never moved! Night Viewing: I previously had a $100 camera installed that took on water inside the camera, that's why I purchased this one. My old camera had "night vision" with 3 LED lights on each side, this camera puts that one to shame for night viewing even without the LED's. this is one of the best cameras I've personally seen for night time. Added bonus: you can turn off the guide lines simply by flipping a switch at the camera side of the connection. This doesn't take effect until the camera is powered off and back on, I personally like the guide lines but if you don't, easy to take them away. Overall: VERY impressed with the camera, it has a 1 yeah warranty and if it died on day 366, I would buy another one the next day, no questions asked. I wouldn't even try to search for a better camera.

You will not be disappointed
Let me first point out the con that I personally have, the RCA video cable would not reach my dash. I installed this camera on my 1974 Volkswagen Bus and there just simply was not enough cable it was short I am guessing around 5' due to how I had to route everything. I already had extra RCA audio cable can and was able to use a coupler to make this work. The switch to shut off the grid lines is an excellent option as my radio has built in adjustable lines. Install was very straight forward, mount camera to plate, then route cable into engine bay, secure box with zip ties, plug in camera, connect hot to back up light power source connect a ground. At this point we connected the video to a LED TV we had sitting around and verified the camera did in fact work and made the adjustments on a 32" screen. We still have some additional tweaking but overall a good product and would buy this one again.

The connector is worth the price admission. Seriously.
PLEASE NOTE: Review of the transmitter follows this review of the camera! :) There is obviously a lot of rebranding going in the backup camera department here on Amazon, and believe me when I say I have tried many of them. This particular Auto-Vox unit stands out in multiple ways - so much so I felt compelled to post a review to help steer people this way and hopefully avoid the disappointment I've previously experienced. First, understand this is not a $500 backup camera. That said, its low price is quite deceptive - it's better than backup cameras costing several times as much. Trust me, I tried them too. Everything about this camera is thoughtful: The bracket has a rib for ridigity that others do not. The actual mount for the camera is just a piece of metal, whereas other cameras use a hinge. At first you'd think that makes it less functional BUT those hinged models are poorly assembled and vibrate loose over time, requiring constant adjustment or sometimes removal and tightening. Once you gently bend this bracket where you need it to be, it stays. But, here is the KEY ELEMENT that makes this assembly better: Auto Vox thoughtfully provides a tiny 4-pin connector to mate this camera to its wiring harness instead of using common RCA and DC jack connectors - that means if you're drilling you only need to drill a tiny hole (1/4" IIRC) instead of some massive hole to pass an RCA connector through. THAT'S HUGE. In terms of performance, I compared this camera against another slightly more expensive color camera and a SLEW of black and white cameras equipped with both IR LEDs and white LEDs for night vision. During the day, this camera at least as good and possibly better than more expensive color cameras, and tangibly better than the B&W cameras - adding color to the mix helps you spot obstacles more easily than fishing out detail in a B&W image. B&W is great for security cameras where you're sitting still watching things happen, but for backup cameras where you are looking for obstacles rather than motion, your eye identifies color much more quickly than shape. At night, the low-light sensitivity is totally adequate, perhaps not quite as good as more expensive color cameras but absolutely equal to ALL the LED-assisted B&W cameras I tested. It's worth mentioning that my application is a 32' long motorhome - this camera is mounted up near the roof to get a view of the full width of the vehicle, and even with just reverse lights 8' away from this camera the view at night is FINE. On a car, where the camera and the reverse lights are much closer together the view would likely be great. The wide viewing angle is legit - the motorhome is over 8' wide and I can see both ends of the rear bumper. That's a big deal for me, and in fact the entire reason I bought a camera. The rear mirrors are fine for broad positioning, but I can't see the first 6' behind the bumper. This camera fully solves that issue, allowing me to back right up to a wall or a pole without fear. For what it's worth, I tried this camera on the strength of Auto Vox's wireless transmitter, which I am also using. it was so good I threw their camera into the testing mix and I have zero regrets. It's just a very nice setup, the price makes it unbeatable. I will likely pick up another one of these to use on my 22' long Cadillac limo... which is probably even worse to back up due to tiny windows and mirrors! :) UPDATE: Kind of annoying that Amazon has linked the camera and the wireless transmitter into one product, so here's the score on the transmitter to go with my review of the camera: I have to admit right away that my application for this transmitter was not as intended. Power comes from a cigarette lighter which was not useful to me, so after verifying it worked I took it apart, sawed off the end, soldered wires onto the pads, and then installed it. The upside of this was that, while apart, I had the opportunity to check out the insides. Let me just say, this setup is FAR SUPERIOR to competitively priced ones. The packaging is superior, the PCB is assembled better, and it has proper internal shielding - most of the others are just slim boxes epoxied around surface mount components. It's not even a comparison. Additionally, the transmitter in this kit uses a real antenna rather than an inch long piece of wire hanging out. Yes, it takes up more space but the results are worth it. Most of the other kits required me to mount the pieces in specific spots to get a decent picture, but across a 32' long motorhome I was not able to upset this pair. I ended up with the transmitter mounted under the bed and the receiver mounted behind the TV in front - that's a solid 28' of airspace going through wood and an LCD with zero degradation. Completely stoked about it. Although I did not need it, the receiver even has a dedicated monitor trigger to switch inputs on your display automatically. Like the camera itself, this whole package is really thoughtful. Well done Auto Vox.

Great camera. Awesome customer service!
This is my 4th Auto-vox camera which I bought to see behind my trailer while driving down the road as well as backing up. I really like the 4-pin connector Auto-vox much more than the standard RCA connectors others use. It makes installation way easier. The camera worked great until water got inside the switch connector power/video cord causing the mini circuit board inside to corrode. Even though it was a few weeks beyond the warranty period, I contacted Auto-vox and they sent me a replacement the next day, including camera in order to expedite it. Note: be sure to use self-sealing tape or liquid rubber to better protect the connector switch if it is exposed to the elements. The shrink wrap I used originally as suggested by another reviewer just didn't seal it well enough.

Backup Camera
I would recommend this camera to anyone that doesn't want to drill holes into their car to add a backup camera. I've had the camera installed for over a month and it's working fine. This camera allows you to have the rear lines or not, you just have to flip a switch on the cable. I forgot and had to go back and flip it after I had wired it in. The only complaint I may have is that it does kind of get a bug eyed look, but it could be due to screen size. I also had to go through some testing to see how close I really was to something when backing up. For a camera that cost under $25, it works great. Only time will tell if it lasts, so far winter weather and rain hasn't killed it.

It installed easily and discreetly
This backup camera is exactly what I was looking for. It installed easily and discreetly. I have a 2007 Honda Civic and I installed an aftermarket Kenwood stereo with the ability to connect a camera to it. This one fit the bill perfectly. It installed in seconds to my license plate bracket. Unlike other similar items, the bracket for the camera goes behind the plate and doesn't cover it. When it came to wiring it up, it easily hooked into one of the wires for the backup light, and then the video signal wire was easy to run up the driver's side molding and to the back of the stereo. Now here is the kicker: My stereo requires it be hooked into the brake wire before it will display the camera signal. This product comes with a brake signal wire built right into the video signal wire! I didn't have to dig around under the dash looking for the brake signal wire. I just hooked the stereo's brake sensor wire to the one built into this product's video signal wire and voila! I'm really pleased. The picture quality is great day and night. It has a little toggle switch in the line to turn the guide-lines off or on easily per your preference. Simple clean install. Highly recommend!

easy to install back up camera
Outstanding, easy to install back up camera. I added this to my Audi A4 when I switched out the head unit. Extremely easy to install; just slid it behind the license plate, drilled a hole and ran the wiring to the front of the car. Audi CAN bus provides reverse wire so I didn't need to run that. The resolution is great, the lens gives you a very wide view behind the car, and it has guidelines built in that you can turn on or turn off with the flip of a small switch. Very satisfied with my purchase; would buy AUTO-VOX again!
